About the Albion being bland or not

Not sure why everyone is giving Sveind so much. He makes some valid points.

I've only been playing since the start of final beta, but I am experiencing a lot of frustrations and boredom with the game as well.

The game lacks diversity (biomes, zones, skills, gear, cities, activities, everything), open world PVP in black/red zones IS pretty rare right now, and calling it a sandbox is a stretch. Build diversity is actually pretty weak, combat is just ~okay~, and I have already witnessed a lot of odd decisions from the SI team. Discovery via iterative release IS NOT the way to conduct game design. That's how you end up with a huge backlog of features and too much time spent in implementing said features without proper validation.

I'm not saying that AO Gold is a bad game and I'm not saying that I haven't had fun, but it's definitely going on my 'to-be-continued' shelf. There are just too many other games right now offering a lot more content and the "hardcore pvp" aspect of full-loot reward/penalty can't float the game by itself. It is nice for nostalgic reasons, thinking back to UO or DF, but otherwise, it still has a long way to go. Honestly, I think the most disappointing thing is that this is the "final beta". I think they have a lot more work to do before release and not enough time to do it.

TLDR; worth the $30 to check out and keep an eye on, keep realistic expectations, still needs a lot of work.I copied this part of another reply because its the same answer here:

After the changes since last beta PVP is still there, but now it takes more buildup until there is reason and chance for full blown PVP. And because there will be a wipe people are not very motivated to put in all the effort right now. Once the game finally launches people will make that effort and at higher levels there will be consequentially massive PVP, as in that level there is Albion Online Powerleveling. Be it also more guild vs guild than mere ganking. But also ganking as there will be way more players at high level that are gathering resources at PVP maps.

About the game being bland or not: the producers have focused on the structure, and the structure is nearly perfect now, imo. The next step is to add more differentiation. Still this is way better then games with plenty of differentiation but bad structure. Players with a lot of fantasy can be satisfied with the game as it is, some need more help to visualize a differentiated world. And people who play mainly for PVP will be satisfied after launch as then there will be much more players at high level due to there not being anymore wipes...

The devs are finished with the rough building, and will now add to the interior. With the right fundamentals little can go wrong, so I have no criticism as of now.
